Welcome to Via the Lens - A Blog written by a traveling wildlife and nature photographer.
I've been described by several people in my town as someone who is a world-traveler, but of course I live in a small rural community in Northern California so they could actually mean that I travel to the next larger town for groceries! But since there is a grocery store in my rural county of 60,000+ they actually mean that I travel to take photographs, mostly wildlife these days but I also photograph landscapes at times. It amazes me that I have actually traveled to five of the seven continents (Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe) in the world. I only need to visit Asia and Australia to have been to all seven!
Sometimes my travel is within the United States, maybe even less than 100 miles from home, and sometimes it is in other countries. I'm not someone who plans a year or two in advance. Normally I get an idea of an animal I want to photograph and then I go online to find out how to accomplish this. I've been on over 30 trips with various photography guides, some I've gone with more than once, over the past ten years plus.
I'm sharing some of my travel experiences with you and hope you find them interesting, insightful, or educational in some way. I will also be sharing photography tips along the way.
