So, who am I to write about photography and processing photographs?
My 20-year career, I retired in March 2006, in the public sector (state, city and county) included creating all types of printed public relations material, from brochures to annual reports, and taking photographs for the various pieces I created as well as photographs for events (this was all mostly of the point and shoot variety). In addition to that, I was on the staff of two recreational boating publications, Sea Magazine and Bay & Delta Yachtsman for three years each and took hundreds of photographs for the 4,000 word article or column I wrote each month. I have degrees in Business Administration (A.A. & B.S.) and a master's degree in Communication Studies. In May 2013 I earned an A.A. degree in Fine Art-Photography. Also, I've been immersed in the world of art for many years and I have learned much about composition, color, subject and more through this association.
I'm an avid photographer who has progressed rapidly in learning fine art photography. I started with classes at the local college, getting my two-year degree in Fine Art/Photography and learning about the basics of photography in film and darkroom printing courses since that was all my local college offered. From there I took a week-long class at the Rocky Mountain Photography School in Missoula, Montana and then started signing up for tour groups with experienced instructors such as Michael Frye from the Yosemite Ansel Adams Gallery and Russ Burden who is associated with the Digital Photo Academy and the Outdoor Photographer website. I went to seminars conducted by John Shaw, Tony Sweet and Scott Kelby's Joe McNally. I read every book and/or article I could get my hands on (which is one of the ways that Ansel Adams learned photography in addition to being an apprentice with a photographer in San Francisco and Yosemite) and delved into LR with open and accepting arms. I am an Adobe Certified Expert in Lightroom, a Lightroom instructor at my local community college, and have taught both groups and individuals Adobe Lightroom in a private workshop setting.
I am a devotee of software and software editing and I have little to no problem with simply setting down and learning the latest software on my own: what has helped me is that I have worked with mac computers and graphics programs during my entire 20-year career in Public Relations and Marketing. You just never know which skill that you learn will help you later on! Several years ago I put up a web page (www.cassinettophotos.com) and started entering competitions, the first two being fairs in my local area. Soon thereafter I was entering other competitions and got into most of them, winning several awards in the process. So, I continue on with that tradition today as well as continuing to learn all I can about photography through many and varied ways. My work is displayed and sold at local gift shops and galleries and has been on display throughout Northern California, from Redding to Madera. I take photographs of everything from nature and landscapes to people and flowers, as noted below and in the photographs throughout this web site.
